Awesome Webquest about Food Chains & Keystone Species

How do you teach your students about ecosystems and food chains in an engaging way? Learning about the role of keystone species in a food chain or food web while using Google Earth Voyager is engaging and interactive. Keystone species are organisms (usually always animals) that have a large influence on food webs in an ecosystem. Without the keystone species, the ecosystem dramatically changes. In this webquest, students explore with real world keystone species and how the presence or absence of the species impacts the entire ecosystem. Beavers, otters, purple starfish, gray wolves, elephants, and other keystone species are included along with their impact on other species and their habitat.

This resource is great for test prep for the 5th grade CAST. Students need to understand food webs and this resource is a great review. Students learn about specific keystone species and their impact on ecosystems. This resource is a webquest that is a companion to the Google Earth Voyager site linked above. In addition to the webquest, video links, a CER, and digital and print quiz are included. Click here to see the resource on TPT.

This low prep activity is great for a sub to use with 5th-8th grade students. A digital and print quiz is included as well.

Students take their learning to the next level with a CER writing activity. This CER can be used as a group activity to model writing and again for students to share what they have learned on their own. If works for any keystone species. A sample answer key and rubric are included to make it easy.

Keep learning fun, engaging, and relevant with this real world webquest.
